After the 2010 election, Greene's opponent, Seth Carson, filed a "notice to contest election," challenging Greene's eligibility to run for office in District 45. Carson claimed Greene failed to meet the state's residency requirement for holding office. Wyoming law required that candidates must have lived in the district in which they were elected for the preceding 12 months. Greene had been deployed in Afghanistan from August 2009 to June 2010. When he left, he resided in District 13. While deployed, he was renting a storage unit in District 45, with the intention of signing a lease in the District when he returned home. Ultimately, Greene lost his challenge.
