Kassner was not sworn into office with the rest of the chamber on January 4, 2023. At that time, a special committee of the Massachusetts House of Representatives was in the process of reviewing the results from the Second Essex District election on November 8, 2022. The committee voted on January 31, 2023, to accept the results of the election. The full state House voted to accept the committee's report on February 1, 2023, and Kassner was sworn into office on February 3, 2023.
