John Whitmire is a Democratic member of the Texas State Senate, representing District 15. Whitmire was first elected to the chamber in 1982. Whitmire is running for re-election in 2018. The primary election took place on March 6, 2018. The general election is being held on November 6, 2018.

Whitmire graduated with a B.A. in political science from the University of Houston and also attended Bates College of Law at the University of Houston.

In addition to being a senator, Whitmire is also an attorney of counsel at Locke, Liddell and Sapp. Prior to his election to the state senate, Whitmire was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1973 to 1982.
