Policy Positions

Arizona State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- The use of public funds for abortions is already prohibited by law. We should not restrict access to Medicaid Title X providers simply because they provide private pay abortions. Restricting access Title X providers is dangerous to women's healthcare in general.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Arizona's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- No Answer

5. Other or expanded principles
- We need a forensic audit of the state budget to figure out how and why public education, community colleges, and universities were defunded. Then we need to see if we can reverse engineer those cuts. We need to take a hard look at our priorities and begin re-investing in workforce development so that we can continue to grow the economy.

- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- No Answer

- If we require a government-issued photo ID, then we need to lower the cost of those IDs so they are accessible to seniors, individuals living on SSDI, individuals living near or below the poverty line, and the homeless. Arizona's current requirement disenfranchises eligible voters and restricts access to their fundamental right to participate in elections.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- My top legislative priority is restoring the funding to our public education system including community colleges and state universities. We need to take a hard look at our state budget funding priorities and figure out how to restore the funding to education. My second priority is fixing the 100 day funding rule for special education students so that their funding follows the student throughout the school year and moves with them when they return to district public schools.
