  • Policy Positions

Washington Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

    Abortion

    1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
    - Pro-choice

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - We need to remember that every defenseless child born needs to be loved, nurtured, clothed, fed, housed, educated, and more. The issue is much more involved than just the birth.

    Budget

    1. In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
    - Yes

    2. In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
    - Yes

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - According to Robert Reich, our defense spending would still be the largest on the planet even if we reduced our military budget by fifty percent. Those funds could be used for important domestic needs.

    Campaign Finance

    1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
    - Yes

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - There are many ways of corrupting government. MONEY in the form of contributions is one that must be regulated.

    Economy

    1. Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
    - Yes

    2. Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
    - No

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - Raising the minimum wage and increasing Social Security benefits would promote economic growth because the recipients would spend their incomes. Reducing corporate taxes has only achieved greater offshore investment and corporate stock buybacks.

    Education

    1. Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
    - Yes

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - I support having federal standards in terms of reduced focus on testing and greater emphasis on having every child complete K-12 and advanced skills education to achieve skills and self sustaining ability to earn a self sufficient living wage. This emphasis should allow for academic, vocational, and/or trade skills.

    Energy & Environment

    1. Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
    - Yes

    2. Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
    - Yes

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - I advocate transitioning off of fossil fuels by 2050 and aggressively adopting policy towards resolving climate change.

    Guns

    1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
    - Yes

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - As an Attorney, I have been sworn in to uphold the constitution and the subsequent supreme court decisions. These decisions make gun ownership an individual right and allow for reasonable regulation. It is time for federal standards for reasonable regulation. The objective is to establish gun safety, and NOT Confiscation, except in very defined circumstances.

    Health Care

    1. Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
    - Yes

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - I will support Medicare for All and prefer going further with a Healthcare security for all universal care single payer system the grants healthcare to all Americans without fear of debt or bankruptcy. Our healthcare policies have significant impact on the ability for couples and families to stay together. Our belief in family values should encourage us to have policies to keep families together.

    Immigration

    1. Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
    - No

    2. Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
    - No

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - We must keep families together, especially those seeking asylum.

    Marijuana

    1. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
    - Yes

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - I support legalization of marijuana and decriminalizing use. More importantly, I support criminal justice reform and reducing the incarceration of individuals for non-violent crimes.

    National Security

    1. Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
    - No

    2. Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
    - Yes

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - Generally, I am opposed to war and believe every effort should be made to achieve diplomatic solutions.

    Administrative Priorities

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
    - Southwest Washington has a unique relationship with the Portland Metropolitan Area. I would seek a framework between Oregon and Washington that has equal seats and representation for transportation solutions.Southwest Washington has a significant amount of federal forest. Current policies have led to fire risk and economically harmed local communities. I will seek policies to reduce forest risk and improve our economy.
