- a) People, not politics. Basic health care for all Americans, welfare reform, Headstart programs. Cost containment is essential - Government can't do everything for everyone. Social programs must produce long-term economic benifits. b) Deficit and debt reduction. In all budgets this large, there is waste; I will find it and sponsor legislation to eliminate it. Reprioritize spending and emphasize long-term deficit reduction.
