- Before we raise taxes or reduce state salaries, we need to close tax loopholes benefitting big corporations as well as making sure the top 1% are paying their fair share. Corporations like Intel, Amazon and Nike have reaped the benefits of the state's SIP program by paying disproportionally low property taxes. Measure 97 would have helped. We have to work to defeat Measure 103, which is another attept to adding tax loopholes for certain businesses.

- Our campaign finance laws ? aided by the Citizens United Supreme Court decision ? promote corruption and infusion of "dark money" in state and federal campaign. We need to reverse Citizens United and work toward transparent campaign finance. The reality of costly campaigns turns many qualified, interested individuals from running for office, leaving us with wealthy candidates or those willing to be financed by questionable corporate and shadowy contributors.

- (c) Mandatory minimum sentencing and prosecuting juveniles as adults are not deterrents. Judging kids as adults is the equivalent of a life sentence, destroying any chance for rehabilitation and successful reentry into society. d) The current federal approach to immigration is cruel, expnsive and inhumane. It is not what America is. I support the defeat of Measure 105.

I don't want to put undue burden on landlords. This needs to be specific as to the reasons for terminated leases or increased rent.

- The current Department of Education has proven to be incompetent and incompatible with inclusive, progressive education. Their emphasis on charter schools over public education is also grossly misdirected.

- Climate change has had a dramatic effect on our state, particularly in the agriculture industry. Droughts in the last few years and wildfires are just the more obvious results. Ours is a state dependent on agriculture with the need for abundant, clean water. I am unconditionally opposed to mining in the state as well as fracking, where my opponent supports both.

- This year, there was an average of a school shooting more than once a day. We have to do everything we can to reduce gun violence in the country. That includes universal background checks and gun registration. The idea of arming teachers is a really bad idea. Teachers have a difficult job as it is ? teaching overcrowded classes ? without turning them into security guards. I am in this because of the shooting at Parkland, FL and am committed to our children and the future.

- No one should be discrininated against because of race, color or gender. There is no reason for a woman to be paid less for performiing the same job as a man.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- Education is the most important issue to me. We need to reduce class sizes, pay teachers better and have mental health counselors at every school. Additionally, we need to ensure art education at every school ? music, art etc. Art integrated in core curricula has shown to benefit students' academic acheivement. We need to teach our kids to think and create, not just to take tests. Improving our education can be costly, but necessary. Meaure 97 would have gone a long way to help. The next best thing is closing corporate tax loopholes and fairly tax the top 1%.
