Positions

New Hampshire Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-life

2. Other or expanded principles
- I favor exceptions for rape, incest and saving the life or health of the mother.

Budget

1. In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- No

2. In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Campaign Finance

1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- I do believe that to pass the congress any law must apply equally to unions and business.

Economy

1. Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

2. Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

3. Other or expanded principles
- Targeted spending can help promote growth, particularly in a recession; but the budget should be in surplus during times of prosperity.

Education

1. Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- States can handle their own educational policies without federal busybodying.

Energy & Environment

1. Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- No

2. Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- I would support some tax credits for renewable energy but not a massive government handout. Where these credits have already expired, they should not be renewed. Likewise your question concerning greenhouse gas emissions is unclear. I would be a "yes/no" on this one. We should be careful to protect the environment, but not to adopt global warming programs that accomplish little or nothing and harm our economy. President Trump was right to abandon the Paris accords.

Guns

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Health Care

1. Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Immigration

1. Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
- Yes

2. Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
- Yes

3. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Marijuana

1. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- I know it is popular today to support recreational marijuana but I am concerned. I strongly support medical marijuana; I am convinced it has a real use in easing pain. Encouraging casual drug use scares me.

National Security

1. Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
- Unknown Position

2. Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- I strongly opposed the invasion of Iraq in 2002-2003. But as General Colin Powell once said, "You break it, you own it." I am convinced President Trump wants to limit and eventually phase out our involvement in the ME. I support him in that goal. I am not a real fan of using force to prevent nuclearization; diplomacy and soft power (sanctions) work better. Bipartisan cooperation and a unified foreign policy are essential to a peaceful approach.

Administrative Priorities

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- My priority would be to get representatives to work together and to stop the partisan bickering and hostility. I worked on Capitol Hill in a gentler age when people actually spoke to each other. I am not foolish enough to believe a single representative can change the world; but I am convinced a sincere representative can change the hostile climate in Washington. I want to be a healer, not divider, speak softly and not shout at people who disagree with me.
